    • It is a compilation of nine stories related to girls and women in developing countries The book is a fundraising effort for Plan, an organization that covers this Stories are filled with sadness since they are based on reality of rape, genital mutilation, sexual abuse, prostitution and general sexism and poverty There is a story by Marie Phillips called Change that paints a pretty grim picture and somehow deprecating of Plan s efforts in Uganda Plan s Uganda head has also responded to it that in [...]

    • This book is beautifully written and definitely a binge read I was so inspired and motivated to keep learning and understanding this project and hope to take part in events run by the GC Because I am a Girl This book allowed me to form a better understanding of how girls in a lot of underdeveloped countries are being treated, which will help me with my action project in BTC.

    • Seven authors have contributed towards Because I am a Girl Their stories of gender inequality, abuse and dire poverty span seven different countries The book states that proceeds from sales of the books go to PLAN one of the world s largest child centred community organisations to help improve the lives of women and children It includes building construction e.g schools, text books, boreholes, clinics, medication and making changes within the challenging culture where women don t have a voice It [...]

    • A collection of writing commissioned by Plan, a child centred community development organistation to highlight the ongoing difficulties faced by young women and girls in a selction of countries including Brazil and Uganda Some of the stories were successful than others I particularly liked Kathy Lette s use of humour in her depiction of Ovarian Roulette in a Brazilian favela where young girls lives are tied to poverty by unwanted pregnancy and the males are U.F.Os Unidentified Fleeing Objects.

    • I came across this book as part of my ongoing quest to read everything that Irvine Welsh has ever written Although much of the factual information contained in the book was old news for me female genital mutilation, sexual abuse, HIV AIDS exposure, second class citizenship, c, c , yet the intimate perspective derived from retellings of what are essentially first person accounts was a refreshing change of pace Definitely a valuable read for anyone interested in learning about the struggles of wo [...]

    • Such an interesting book about the lives of girls around the world I loved that it had both fiction and nonfiction stories, and that there was even one story that was slightly critical of PLAN International s work a really valid way to give critics a voice, but also to answer that criticism I just stumbled across the book at the library, but will certainly be giving my attention to PLAN a lot in the future.

    • A compilation of stories by by authors exposing how the women and young girls in a few countries are severely mistreated It is put together somewhat as an advertisement and fundraising effort for the organization, Plan I don t think the real stories of abuse can be rated.

    • Si todas las historias tuvieran la misma calidad y el mismo impacto, fuera una compilaci n excepcional Pero algunos relatos son realmente mediocres, sobre todo el correspondiente a RD.
