    • As with any collection by a variety of authors, some works enchanted me than others That said, this collection of superhero stories definitely enchanted than it disenchanted With a charming mix of villains, anti heroes, heroes, and the common superman or superwoman, these stories let you glimpse a peek behind the curtain The retired, the ones who didn t catch their big break, the few who saw themselves become the villain an interesting mix of humour, style, and adventure Like slice of life for [...]

    • Beyond the MasksA review of Tesseracts Nineteen Superhero Universe Edited by Mark Shainblum and Claude Lalumiere Edge, 2016.By Derek Newman StilleSo often the superhero genre is treated as infantile, low brow, and therefore as un valuable Yet, the superhero has become our modern fairy tale, a transposition of the magical into the urban, replacing fairy godmothers with scientific experiments gone wrong They still construct the brave princes and princesses facing off against the evil witches and c [...]

    • This latest installment in a yearly compendium of science fiction and fantasy stories from Canada focuses on superheroes It involves a lot than constant battles against Dr Bad Guy.A female super villain breaks out of prison and crashes her family s barbecue, in order to visit her dying grandmother The rest of the family is not thrilled about her sudden appearance When a superhero is injured in battle, does he or she go to the local hospital, or to a special superhero hospital After the public a [...]

    • I received a free copy of this book through LibraryThing Early Reviewers. It s a solid short story collection about various superheroes, all set in Canada There are a few stories in here that aren t that good, but on the whole it s a nice set Most are well worth a read.My favourites were Lost and Found I wouldn t mind reading an entire novel of this , Black Sheep, Bedtime for Superheroes lovely little slice of life piece and S PER again, one that I d really like to see expanded into an entire nov [...]

    • I found this a bit of a slog As is to be expected with an anthology, some stories were better than others I enjoyed Bedtime for Superheroes by Leigh Wallace, The Island Way by Mary Pletsch and Dylan Blacquiere, and Spirit in the Clay by Bevan Thomas, because really, a story where Mackenzie King summons the ghost of a soldier to possess the Golem of Prague kind of hits all my interests But many of the stories were just trying a little too hard to be cute.

    • This bookI can t seem to get through it That doesn t mean it is bad, but it is just hard for me to gwt through There are 2 main reasons for that they are short stories AND they are all written by different authors There are definitely good things about both of those reasons, but for me it just creates reasons to put it aside and pick up another book instead. That aside, I can t really get over the fact that to me the worst story of the ones I have read is put first It gave me such a bad impressio [...]

    • I m not going to give this one a star rating I find anthologies to be really hit and miss, and this one had misses for me than hits, but I don t want to unfairly drag down the stories I did like The Island Way , Bloodhound , Lost and Found , Crusher and Typhoon , Black Sheep , and Bedtime for Superheroes were the ones I liked best I d definitely read stories set in those worlds.

    • Some of the stories were inventive and well written than others, but the whole book was an interesting look at science fiction written in another part of the world.
